-Significant gains for banks

The CSE general index – influenced by the banking sector that had gains of 2.2% - recorded a tenth consecutive rise, reaching its highest point since August 28 and closing at 87.6 points and +2.3%. FTSE20 also enjoyed gains of 2.3% reaching 331.8 points.
Banks were the leading sector of the session with the Bank of Cyprus rising 1.7% or 2 cents, the Popular Bank +2.8% or 3 cents and the Hellenic Bank +2.8% or 2 cents. The Bank of Cyprus warrants reported significant gains of 11.4% closing at 22.4 cents and gaining a total 77.8% within the last ten sessions.
The trading volume of the day totaled the remarkable CYP 1.3 millions, last seen on May 31, 2002. The most marketable stock of the day was the Bank of Cyprus (19.7% of the total volume) closing at CYP 1.20, while a considerable investors’ interest was attracted by the Popular Bank (11.8% of the turnover) reaching CYP 1.09 and Jupiter Investments (9.5% of the turnover) ending 8.7% higher to 13.8 cents.
The other volume leaders of the day were the Hellenic Bank (5.2% of the total volume) that jumped to 74 cents and Louis (4.7% of the turnover) that went up 4.9% to 15.1 cents.
Overall, 79 securities went up, 26 fell and 12 remained unchanged.
