Airports: Labour crisis still looming

The labour crisis at the Larnaca and Paphos Airports few days before the signing of the final agreement between the government and the strategic investor is still looming due to the government’s failure to settle the employment terms of the staff.

Negotiations between SEK and PEO and the Finance and Transport Ministers have been unfruitful. In a joint letter sent on Monday, the two trade unions urged the government to act rapidly. “There is no agreement so far that could secure the rights of the employees”, SEK and PEO said.

The trade unions also warned that if the government signs the final agreement with the strategic investor without settling the employment terms first, the Civil Aviation Department will go on a strike.
