Passenger traffic at airports on Friday 15 December 2023 exceeded the total traffic of the entire pre-pandemic year of 2019, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeades said in a statement today, adding that 2019 was a record year for passenger traffic, while, compared to 2019, this year is expected to show an increase of 3%.

According to Vafeades, this increase in passenger traffic, with a positive impact on the economy and tourism in Cyprus, is the result of the joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, Hermes Airports Ltd and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism to develop airport connectivity, while the increase in flight frequencies and the enrichment of Cypriot airports network with new airlines and routes played a decisive role in this result, adding that this year 157 routes were offered by 56 airlines, providing connectivity to 39 countries.

The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works thanks once again the above-mentioned partners, as well as all stakeholders who contributed to this effort, while assuring that he will continue his efforts to further enhance the connectivity of Cyprus and improve the level of service to passengers through Larnaca and Pafos airports, the statement concludes.
