“I would like to emphasize that the Ministry of Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus will continue to exert every effort, in order to ensure a transparent and fair tendering procedure,” stated the Minister of Communication and Works on Tuesday, at a Conference held amongst the bidders for construction and operation of the two Cypriot airports. During the conference the bidders will have the opportunity to be directly informed by people who either use the airport, operate it or are otherwise involved in the tourist industry. The bidders will be presented with activities of the various airport-related organizations, and will have the chance to discuss with the various agencies any related subject. Furthermore, issues of a confidential nature can be raised with the Ministry of Communications and Works and its advisers, in special sessions with each of the bidders on Wednesday afternoon.
At the introductory speech of the conference, Mr Neophytou emphasized that the Ministry will “ ensure that the Concession Contract will be awarded to the best-evaluated bidder.” “Taking into consideration your comments at our last meeting concerning the modifications you can make to the existing plans,” said the popular Cypriot minister, we have tried our best to clarify it. As a result two weeks ago, we sent you ITT circular no. 1, which, amongst other clarifications, allows you to modify the total plan area of Larnaka’s new terminal building by +/- 15%. We hope that this additional flexibility will assist you in searching for the most cost effective solution. At the same time this should be in line with the original architectural concept and the other parameters stated in the ITT document.”
