The Council of Ministers decided at its meeting on Friday 21 April 2023 the appointment of Andreas Charitou, Professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of Cyprus, to the position of non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Cyprus, which became vacant following the appointment of Makis Keravnos as Minister of Finance.
According to an official announcement, redistributed by the PIO, Charitou also taught at the University of Toronto (Canada) and the Pennsylvania State University (USA), while he served as Dean and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management, Chairman of the Department of Public Administration and Business Administration, co-chair of the MBA and PhD programmes in Finance, member of the Senate and member of the Finance and Personnel Committee of the University of Cyprus.
Charitou studied Business Administration and Accounting at the Athens University of Economics and Business (BSc) and at the Pennsylvania State University in the United States (MSc, Ph.D) and holds the professional title of Certified Management Accountant (C.M.A., U.S.A.), having also served as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission and a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Stock Exchange, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Fiscal Council and Vice-Chairman of the Cyprus Council for the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications, while he was also appointed by the Council of Ministers as an Expert of the Exploratory Committee on the Cyprus economy. He is also a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus.
