Twenty-five thousand Germans are expected to visit Cyprus via tour operator VDK, which monopolized the Turkish tourist market so far. This development falls within the framework of the CTO’s participation in Berlin’s tourist fair. Speaking to StockWatch, CTO Chairman, Fotis Fotiou stated that the agreement with the German tourist office is a huge success for Cyprus, since the German tourist arrivals in the island have recorded a stable increase in the past few years. It is worth noting that German tourist arrivals increased by 40% in the past five years.
Mr. Fotiou also said that VDK monopolized the tourist market of Turkey. “VDK sends more than 100 thousand Germans to various Turkish tourist resorts. This is its first cooperation with Cyprus and it was on its own initiative, after the excellent presentation of the CTO in the fair. In the next few years Cyprus must improve its tourist product, promoting the conference tourism, agrotourism and several infrastructure projects such as marinas, theme parks and casinos”, the CTO Chairman stated.
