Deputy Minister of Migration attends EU Home Affairs Council

The Deputy Minister of Migration and international Protection, Nicholas A. Ioannides will participate in the Justice and Home Affairs Council of the European Union (EU), which will take place today, Thursday, in Brussels.

According to a press release by the Deputy Ministry, during the Council's proceedings, the European Commission will provide an update on the implementation of the Pact on Immigration and Asylum, while a discussion will be held on the preparatory measures taken by Member States and the Commission for its full implementation by June 2026.

During the working lunch, the Ministers will discuss the external dimension of addressing migration challenges, as well as developments in Syria.

In the margins of the Council's proceedings, the Deputy Minister will meet with the Polish Deputy Minister of Interior and the Danish Minister of Migration and Integration, representatives of the countries that will make up the Trio Presidency together with the Republic of Cyprus, to discuss and coordinate their countries' priorities.

Ioannides will also have meetings with the Minister of Interior of Finland, Mari Rantanen, as well as with the Acting Director General of the EU Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs, Beate Gminder.

The Deputy Minister returns to Cyprus on Friday, 13 December 2024.
