President Nikos Christodoulides pressed for accelerated efforts to achieve the government’s 88 flagship projects for the second year of his administration in a special Cabinet meeting. According to Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki, 51 of the projects are nearing completion or are set to finish within weeks, with 38 already complete and another 13 expected soon. However, 37 initiatives are still lagging initial timeframes set.

In statements following the meeting at the Presidential Palace, Piki stressed the President’s commitment to meeting government timelines, urging Ministers to intensify efforts.

“The President has requested Cabinet members to intensify efforts on these projects to ensure strict adherence to the government’s annual schedule,” the Deputy Minister said.

Piki added that today also marked the start of the presentation in Parliament of the 2025 annual budget for each Ministry. Alongside this, she added, each Ministry will soon be releasing its Action Plan for 2025.

“Annual planning, the Ministries’ action plans, and the President’s direct review of the government’s progress are new features introduced by the President, as part of his commitment to transparency and accountability,” Piki said.

When asked about the delays, Piki explained that when the process began in January, each Ministry set specific timelines for flagship projects planned for the administration’s second year.

“Some delays may stem from legislation still under review or pending in Parliament, while others may be related to grant programmes requiring additional consultation. In some cases, programme announcements have faced minor setbacks,” she noted.

Piki pointed out that the focus remains on completing projects within the set timeframes, noting that even if a project didn’t align with the original schedule, this doesn’t mean it won’t be completed.

Piki underscored that all project updates are publicly available at the website diakivernisi.gov.cy.

She also said that the President will deliver a comprehensive report on the 2024 projects at the end of the year, reviewing progress and adjustments.

According to a Presidency note, the completed initiatives cover a broad range of matters, including Cyprus' MED9 presidency, reform in local governance, updated asylum processes, and numerous educational and energy programmes. Several important measures, such as energy storage advancement, health infrastructure, and upgrades to public services, remain in progress.
