Total assets of the economy in financial instruments amounted to €869.008,9 million at the end of December 2023,

The Statistical Service of Cyprus said on Tuesday, in a press release on the annual financial accounts (stocks) by institutional sector, that the annual financial net worth in 2023 was -€29,120.7 mn.

Regarding  total economy, the total assets of the economy in financial instruments amounted to €869,008.9 million at the end of December 2023, of which 51.5% relates to equities and shares, 16.1% to currency and deposits and 20.4% to loans.

The total liabilities of the economy in financial instruments amounted to €898,129.6 million at the end of December 2023, of which 51.3% relates to equities and shares, 26.2% to loans and 11.5% to currency and deposits.

Households and Non-financial Corporations

The Statistical Service says that assets of households in financial instruments amounted to €57,445 million at the end of December 2023, of which 55.4% consists of currency and deposits, 0.9% in loans, 3.2% in debt securities and 22.9% in equities.

The amount of loans for this sector reached 20,072.1 million, at the end of December 2023, with a debt-to-Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio of 64%.

The corresponding assets of non-financial corporations amounted to €71,954.6 million, with 17.4% in cash and deposits, 6.9% in loans, 0.5% in debt securities, 42.6% in equities and 32% in other financial instruments.

The amount of loans for this sector at the end of December 2023 reached €39,506.9 million, with a debt-to-GDP ratio of 134.3%.
