Cyprus Health Ministry on Monday announced the death of 2 people from COVID-19 bringing total deaths to 564 and 166 new cases from a total of 66,954 tests. Moreover it announced that 57 patients are hospitalized of whom 23 in serious condition. Figures show that 60% of the patients are unvaccinated.
According to the Ministry, 8 post-COVID patients who are no longer infectious are intubated in serious condition in ICUs.
The positivity rate stands now at 0,25% and the total cases since the pandemic broke out rose to 122,528. The deceased are a male 75 years old who passed away on Saturday at the ICU of the Nicosia General Hospital and a male 56 years of age who died on Monday at the ICU of the same hospital. Of the 564 deaths, 358 are male (63%), and 206 are female (37%) and the median age is 76,2 years old.
Of the 23 patients in serious condition, 10 are intubated in ICUs and 13 are in ACUs. Of the 66,954 tests on Monday, 5,934 were PCR and 61,020 rapid and the 166 cases were detected as follows: 25 from 403 samples taken in the framework of contact tracing, 8 from 3,378 tests done at airports, 16 from 1,382 tests done on provate initiative, 4 from 272 tests done at microbiological labs of general hospitals across the islands ,82 from 39,335 rapid tests done at private labs and chemists and 31 from 21,685 rapid tests done via the Health Ministry`s program.
No case was detected among 499 tests done following referrals from GPs and testing at public clinics.
From the rapid tests done by the Ministry`s program 6 cases were detected in high schools, one in closed units and one in testing done among tourists.
