Attorney General of the Republic, Costas Clerides appealed to the members of the House Institutions’ Committee not to discuss, at this time, the actions of the institutions of the Republic in relation to the Federal Bank of Middle East.
Mr. Clerides noted in his letter that any discussion of the issue will be against the public interest and will cause problems in the ongoing proceedings which are pending before both the courts of the Republic and the international arbitral tribunal of the International Chamber of Commerce based in Paris.
Mr. Clerides emphasized that in order to protect the legal and arbitration proceedings as well as the best interests of the Republic and since the branch of FBME in Cyprus is still under consolidation regime, it is not appropriate to discuss the issue.
