Citizens using the new tax self assessment procedure for 2014 have paid over €8 million to the government.

In statements to CNA senior official at the Tax Department Klelia Papadopoulou said that until July 17 a total of €8.18 million was paid by 11,483 taxpayers who used the new self assessment procedure.

The deadline was June 30 for both electronic and printed self assessments.

Papadopoulou told CNA that the amount is expected to go up.

According to her, a total of 55,750 taxpayers have submitted electronically their tax returns through the Taxisnet system while the deadline for submissions is today.

Annually approximately 200 thousand returns are submitted in both electronic and print form so it is estimated that the rest will be submitted in print.

She also recalled that all those who should have filed their tax returns and did not do so will be fined €100. Taxpayers are obligated to file a tax return if their annual income is over €19,500.
