Cyprus-Greece-Egypt Foreign Ministers to meet in New York

The Foreign Ministers of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt will take stock of progress in areas of their trilateral cooperation, such as energy, defence and diaspora issues, during a meeting in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York, later this month, Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, said on Friday while briefing media representatives at the Presidential Palace.

Letymbiotis said that a trilateral meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt will take place on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly to be held in New York on 22-29 September 2024.

He added that the meeting in New York is also an opportunity to discuss and coordinate on issues of strategic interest, addressing common challenges, regional issues of common interest, such as developments in the region and aspects of EU-Egypt relations.

“This is a traditional meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly,” he said, noting that it is an opportunity to better prepare for the forthcoming official ministerial or high-level trilateral meetings. Letymbiotis indicated that this year's meeting is an opportunity to prepare for the 10th Summit, expected to be held in Egypt.

He stated that the Cyprus Foreign Minister will also have a separate bilateral meeting with his Egyptian counterpart as part of the ongoing coordination between the two ministers.

The Government Spokesperson said that the long-standing close relations between the two countries and regional developments were discussed in a telephone conversation between the Cypriot Foreign Minister and his Egyptian counterpart on Thursday.
