Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has decided to appoint Justice and Public Order Minister George Savvides in the post of Attorney General and Defence Minister Savvas Angelides in the post of Deputy Attorney General, Government Spokesperson Kyriacos Koushos has said in a written statement, on Tuesday.
He has also decided to appoint Stelios Papatheodorou as Chief of Cyprus Police and Christos Mavris as Deputy Chief of Police.
The new Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General will be sworn in on July 10, and the new Chief of Police and Deputy Chief of Police will be sworn in on July 1, Koushos says in his statement.
The Government Spokesperson adds that President Anastasiades wishes to convey his warm thanks to former Justice and Public Order Minister Ionas Nicolaou, who having taken into account the completely unfounded and unjustified objections of opposition parties and in an effort to safeguard the prestige of the position of President of the Republic “did not accept a proposal to take over the posisition of Attorney General.”
Koushos also informs that details of the government reshuffle which will follow, will be announced during this week.
