President Nikos Christodoulides, will brief on the developments on the Cyprus issue, as well as on the results of his recent contacts at the United Nations headquarters in New York, during the MED9 Summit to be held in Malta, on Friday.
According to a presidency press release, President Christodoulides departs tomorrow morning for Malta, where he will participate in the MED9 Summit to be held in the afternoon of the same day in Valletta.
The Summit will also be attended by President of France and the Prime Ministers of Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Slovenia, as well as the host country Malta.
It is added that among the issues to be discussed are the Southern Neighbourhood Policy, EU Enlargement, as well as issues related to the preparation of the upcoming European Council in October, where, among others, Migration and Economy will be discussed.
According to the press release, during the Summit, the President of the Republic will provide an update on developments in the Cyprus issue, as well as on the results of his recent contacts at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
After their discussions, the leaders will make statements to the media, followed by a working dinner in Medina.
President Christodoulides, who will return to Cyprus late on Friday evening, will be accompanied in Malta by Director of his Press Office, Victoras Papadopoulos, and other officials.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
