Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, will attend on September 30 a summit of the nine Mediterranean EU member states group (MED-9) that will take place in Alicante, Spain.
The group comprises Spain, Cyprus, France, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Greece, Croatia and Slovenia.
Last July a MED-9 ministerial meeting took place in Madrid and was attended by Cyprus Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides. The Ministers of the nine countries, among others, focused on the preparation of the forthcoming MED-9 summit in Alicante.
Moreover, they evaluated the EU response as regards the management of the COVID-19 pandemic, they discussed about the situation in Ukraine after the Russian invasion of the country and the ensuing complications that it has caused as the food crisis, rising inflation, the energy supply.
The Ministers also exchanged views on ways to enhance the EU partnership with the countries of the Southern Neighborhood, and looked into ideas aiming to upgrading the MED-9 effectiveness.
