Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos has stressed the importance of strict supervision to Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), George Theocharides and George Karatzias, during a meeting they had on Tuesday at the Ministry of Finance.
In a press release, the Ministry says that during the meeting, the Minister was informed about the areas of activity and responsibilities of CySEC.
The Chairman of CySEC congratulated the Minister for assuming his duties and assured the continuation of close cooperation between the Commission and the Ministry of Finance, the press release adds.
The Minister, it continues, emphasised the importance of strict supervision of the sectors that fall under CySEC's area of responsibility, and assured of the Ministry's and his own continuous cooperation and support to the supervisory authority.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, the Minister met with the CEO of Eurobank Cyprus, Michalis Louis. According to a Ministry press release at the meeting there was a mutual exchange of information and an exchange of views on matters of the economy and the banking sector.
