Press: Dispute on princes and kings

The major issues in today’s financial press are the House Finance Committee’s session on the abolition of multiple pensions, the Labour Office’s data on the registered unemployed in March and the gold at the area of Ayios Nicholaos in Kakopetria.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to the House Finance Committee’s session on the abolition of multiple pensions today. DISY Vice President, Averof Neophytou said that the bill that will be approved on Holy Thursday by the Parliament will not deal with the “princes” only but the “kings” too, which are the Attorney General, the judges etc. In reply, Aristos Damianos, member of AKEL Central Committee, said that he insists in an annihilation policy.

Elsewhere the newspaper refers to the significant changes in the leadership of Alpha Bank.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Politis” refers to the Labour Office’s data on the registered unemployed in March. According to them, of the total registered unemployed in March, the Cypriots are 66%, the European citizens 26%, the third country citizens 4% and the T/C 2%, while the total recognized political refugees stand at 2%.

“Politis” also highlights that Goldman Sachs said that the recovery of the European economy is “normal”.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Simerini” refers to the gold at the area of Ayios Nicholaos in Kakopetria. According to the report, the Canadian company Northern Lion Gold Corp announced that its special laboratories found out that the area has from 4.5 to 6.1 grams of net gold per ton of rock. Last Tuesday, the Company announced that it will proceed with the allocation of shares with private placement in order to boost the search for the extraction of gold in Cyprus.

The newspaper also refers to the launch of a new Strategy Sector by the VAT Service to eliminate the tax evasion.

The newspaper “Alithia” reports that the main characteristic of the usurers, apart from the threats for murders, is the high interest rate that they impose since in certain cases and despite the payment of installments, the sums go up instead of going down.

The “Economy” inset of the newspaper refers to the marginal increase in the customs department’s revenues in the first quarter of 2011 due to the consumer taxes on fuel.
