07/10/2011 13:07
Dr. Petros Kareklas, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and Member of The Cyprus Institute’s Board of Trustees was awarded the Grade Chevalier dans l'Ordre de la Legion d' Honneur by the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, in recognition of his meritorious services in promoting bilateral relations between France and Cyprus. The insignia were presented at the French Embassy in Nicosia by the French Ambassador Mr. Jean-Marc Rives.

The Legion d'honneur is the highest decoration in France for military and civilian achievements. It was established by law in 1802 on the initiative of Napoleon Bonaparte and has been recognised by all political systems and governments since then. The bearers of the decoration form an order, of which the President of France is the Grand Master. The President of the French Republic appoints all members of the Order by convention, on the advice of the Government.

Non French nationals receive this distinction for serving France or the ideals it upholds.

The Cyprus Institute cordially congratulates Dr. Kareklas for the honour he has been awarded.
