It is official: Agia Napa is a candidate for European Capital of Culture 2030

  • The candidacy presentation was held at the Event Center of Ayia Napa Marina and attended by a plethora of local organizations, authoritarians and personalities who support this initiative

The official presentation of Agia Napa's candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2030 took place on Tuesday, 8th of October 2024 was a resounding success, with over 150 distinguished guests, including representatives from the local authorities, cultural, and business sectors, institutions, and local community members, gathering at the iconic Event Center of Ayia Napa Marina.

During the event, the President of the Famagusta District Organization and Agia Napa 2030, Mr. Yiannis Karousos, together with the Mayor of Agia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, and the Mayor of Paralimni-Deryneia, Mr. Giorgos Nicolettos, welcomed the attendees and presented the vision and the cultural initiatives that will be implemented in the context of the candidacy and all of them highlighted of the importance of this undertaking for the whole of the Famagusta district.

The program's Artistic Director, Ms. Tasoula Kallenou, presented the project’s main elements, focusing on Agia Napa's connection to culture, local history, and tradition. She was followed by Mr. Karousos's analysis of the project's long-term strategy, which emphasized the importance of cultural development for the non-occupied Famagusta area.

The presentation concluded with the introduction of Mr. Sakis Moyseos, the Partner and Business Consulting Leader of Grant Thornton Cyprus, who highlighted the possibilities of financing and attracting sponsorship programs for the candidacy.

The evening ended with a reception accompanied by finger food and drinks, allowing the participants to exchange opinions and coordinate their actions in support of the candidacy.

Agia Napa's candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2030 is an important step in promoting the city as an international cultural center, and it is expected to significantly boost the region’s cultural and tourism development.
