Israeli Antiquities Authority to visit the Cyprus Institute
The Cyprus Institute (CyI) will host on March 20th and 21st, a delegation of high ranking scientists from the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), the largest archaeological scientific and administrative body in Israel in charge of the research, curation, preservation, conservation and public outreach of Israel’s cultural heritage patrimony.
Dr. David Gabai, Deputy Director for computing systems and Dr. Gideon Avni, Deputy Director for research at the IAA will visit the institute to learn about the various research methodologies and techniques used by the scientists of CyI’s Science and Technology Research Center (STARC).
The two institutions aim to discuss scientific cooperation in the fields of 3D and other imaging technologies applied to archaeology and cultural heritage as well as to the management of digital libraries for cultural heritage.
Digital libraries and Europeana (Europe’s Digital Portal and Library for Cultural Heritage) are the heart of the European Union’s Digital Agenda for Europe. The Cyprus Institute is actively supporting and promoting innovation in the development of technologies and methodologies for scientific visualization (including 3D) for research and communication of cultural heritage and digital libraries relevant to Cyprus and the region.
During their visit, a meeting with the Director of the Cyprus Department of Antiquities, Dr. Maria Hadjicostis is settled.
