Cyprus negotiators Andreas Mavroyiannis and Ozdil Nami continue this week their meetings, to be followed by a two-week break. They will resume their work during the last week of August, probably on the 25th, with daily meetings aiming to prepare the leaders` meeting to be held on September 1st.

Asked by CNA, Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides said that the negotiators will meet on Monday in the presence of the working committee on the economy. After that they will have a meeting in the presence of the working committee on the property issue, he added.

Christodoulides also said that the negotiators will also meet on Tuesday in the presence of the working committee on EU issues. Furthermore they will meet on Friday to take stock of the situation and for further planning.

The spokesman said that the UN Secretary General`s Special Adviser Espen Barth Eide will not be present during today`s and tomorrow`s meetings but he will attend the meeting that will be held on Friday.

Christodoulides noted that the negotiators will then have a short break and will resume their meetings during the last week of August, probably on the 25th, on a daily basis, with a view to prepare the meeting of the leaders, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, to be held on September 1st.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN-led talks, aiming to reunite the island under a federal roof, resumed in May this year.
