Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) enhance their cooperation in advanced technologies and cyber security.
Cyprus Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Kyriakos Kokkinos, who participates in the delegation headed by Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, which is currently visiting Dubai, had on Tuesday a meeting with Omar Ahmed Suwaina al Suwaidi, UAE Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology.
In statements after their meeting, Kokkinos said that they exchanged views on the enhancement of the cooperation between the two countries. "We have determined the areas and I have extended an official invitation to him to come to Cyprus to look into how to more forward, after the right preparation is made," he noted.
Kokkinos also said that an MoU will be signed on Thursday with the UAE Cybersecurity Council for cooperation in the fields related to cyber security and cyber attacks.
The Deputy Minister also noted that Dubai has progressed very much in the fields of advanced technologies, as artificial intelligence, cyber security and blockchain.
He said that for us "Dubai is a geographical place of interest because it gives us access towards the East, and for Dubai as the Under-Secretary has told me today, Cyprus is a country that can give them access to Europe."
Moreover he said that these meetings are very helpful and useful.
Replying to a question, Kokkinos said that Dubai has progressed very much on issues of artificial intelligence and other technologies that have to do with agrotechnology, climate change and the technologies related to climate change, and therefore there can be only positive outcomes from such meetings.
Asked about the Dubai EXPO, he noted that the exhibition is not so much about commercial transactions, but about highlighting the fact that your country is a place situated in the Eastern Mediterranean which the rest of the countries must consider for business activities.
