The capacity of Famagusta General Hospital, which operates as the Reference Hospital for COVID-19, climbed at 96%, Amalia Hadjiyianni, Scientific Director of the Hospital, told the Cyprus News Agency, adding that 81% of the hospitalised patients has not been vaccinated.
The health official said that ‘’today 67 patients are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, of whom 13 are in the Increased Care Unit.’’ The median age of patients is 63 years, while the youngest patient is 31 and the eldest 93. Both of them are unvaccinated, she added.
Hadjiyianni also noted that, although in recent days the number of admissions was double the number of discharges, there was a balance on Wednesday, as there were eight admissions and seven discharges.
Referring to Larnaca General Hospital, the director said that 35 COVID-19 patients are being treated, of whom five are in the Increased Care Unit. At the same time,127 people who tested positive to the virus are staying at the Eden rehabilitation centre in Tersefanou before their release in ten days’ time.
An additional 25 people are being treated in the post Covid ward, the health official said.
She added that due to the Omicron variant, there were over 20 cases detected among the Reference Hospital staff. Despite the steep rise in the number of patients, things are under control thanks to the staff’s efficiency, she explained.
As regards vaccinations in Famagusta district, Hadjiyianni pointed out that they have been ongoing at a fast pace and that vaccination centres are working hard to assist those who want to be vaccinated, including children over five years of age.
